RFirst there is no “King Arthur myth'. There are a number of medieval stories about Arthur, most of them written in French and obviously as much or more influenced by the French chivalric culture of the day than by Celtic influences deriving from the supposed source.There is some difficulty in identifyng Celtic culture. Many Celtic tales share motfis with Germanic tales, and even African tales. We have many references to Breton minstrels, and they likely spread the stories they knew among the French. Beginning in the twelfth century a new style of stories emerged among the French, tales often about Arthur, which differed somewhat from the earlier so-called chançons de geste about Charlemagne and his peers. These tales often centered on battles, either between Charlemagne and the pagans or in rebellions against Charlemagne by one or another of his barons.In the new tales battles were almost non-existent. Instead, normally, a single knight proved his own individual prowess by battling other knights, giants, dragons, and by breaking enchantments. The Fench authors likely got some of their plots from Breton sources, but also likely made many of them up.Some scholars, like Roger Loomis attempted to show that the French tales had Irish and Welsh analogues, and that Lancelot, though unknown in early Welsh tales, was in fact a humanized form of the Irish god Lug and the Welsh god Lleu. However most feel that Loomis went too far. And there are also many wonders and marvels found in Germanic sources and in tales from the east that became known at that time.Nevertheless, some motifs and incidents are seen (outside of Arthurian tales), very prominently in Celtic tales. For example, the beheading contest, in which the hero is challenged to swap off the head of a challenger, and then put himself in the same position, can be traced to any Irish story of Cúchallain and Cúroi. At least some parts of the Tristan story have Irish analogues. (However parts of the French Tristain tales have also be dubiously traced to eastern tales.)Indeed, it is noticeable that many Irish tales the most resemble French Arthurian tales seem to be among the later tales, and it is likely that at least in some cases French Arthurian tales have influenced the Irish tales, rather than vice versa.But note that no early Welsh tale states that Cei, the Welsh version of the French Keu and the English Kay, is Arthur’s foster brother or even that he is Arthur's seneschal. Kay is never called a seneschal or stewad in the extent Welsh tales, while in the Welsh tale of “Gereint'' Arthur’s steward is Odyar the Frank, who is unknown in any French tale. Claims that Keu's role as Arthur's foster brother and as Arthur’s seneschal derive from lost Welsh sources are just inventions.Also, tables were not greatly used in Roman times, and the Welsh did not even have a native word for “table” until they adopted the English word “bord” as “bword”. “Bord” just means “board'' but was also the common word for “table”, for a table is just a board set on trestles.Arthur’s round table is never mentioned in any Welsh text that is not a direct translation of a French Arthurian romance.In short, there is undoubtedly Celtic material mixed into the Arthurian tales that have come down to us, but they have mostly come down through French sources, and so it is hardly unmixed Celtic sources. And the Welsh and Irish did not live in a vacuum, but also adapted motifs from neighboring folk. Accordingly, to claim that any particular element in an Arthurian tale is of Celtic origin is very dubious. It may be, or may be from Persian, or may be from an old Frankish folk tale, or an Old English folk tale.Marion Zimmer Bradley’s “Mists of Avalon” is a modern novel, and not particularly Celtic in the list. Bradley invents an ancient British pagan faith based mostly on modern Wicca.

RIt is very doubtful that Lancelot ever existed. In native Welsh Arthurian tales he is not mentioned. Where he does appears in Welsh tales, he is taken from French Arthurian tales and is called “Lawnslot”. No native Welsh name or word begins with the the single letter “L”. They begin with the double letter “L”, as in Llewelyn, which is a voiceless “l”.The scholar Roger S. Loomis thought Lancelot originated as a humanized form in story of the British god Lleu, but this theory has not caught on.The only possibly genuine figures in Arthurian tales likely to be historical Arthurian figures of the promenent characters are Arthur himself, Guenevere, Kay, Bedwyr, and Mordred and even they may be imaginary. We certainly know almost nothing about them if they were historical. The French tales tell of Yvain son of King Urien, whom the Welsh call Owein son of Urien, and Malory calls Uwaine son of King Uriens. He is almost certainly historic, but his historical prototype lived at the end of he 6th century and/or the beginning of the 7th century, after even the latest dates provided for Arthur in medieval texts. In the later Lancelot version, Arthur does nothing and it is Lancelot who follows after and rescues her.The story of how Arthur won the throne of Gaul in single combat with Frollo is repeated from the earlier versions in the “Prose Lancelot”, but in the “Prose Lancelot” it occurs as only part of a campaign to restore Lancelot and his kinsmen to their rightful inheritance.In earlier versions of the grail quest, the hero is Perceval, or once Gawain. Now, Lancelot being unsuitable as a grail hero because of his adulterous relationship with Guenevere, the authors come up with the son of Lancelot, unknown to us from any earlier text. His name is Galahad and he becomes the primary grail hero, pushing Perceval to second place. A third hero is Bohort (Bors) and it is not coincidental that he is Lancelot’s first cousin and is also unknown before these romances, at least in surviving texts.In the earlier version, Arthur appoints Mordred as his regent when he goes to Europe to fight the Romans. In this version, Arthur goes to fight Lancelot, and fails miserably. The Roman war does occur at this point, but is related very briefly. Malory leaves it out altogether at this point in his tale.You could write an essay showing how the earlier Arthurian tales were distorted to make Lancelot more important to Arthurian pseudo-history. But the earlier Arthurian tales were also not history.

RAccording to the book "Myths and Legends from the Middle Ages" by Dr. van den Bergh van Eysinga, published by W.J. Thieme & Cie, Zuthphen, the Netherlands, these 13 warriors had no names. One of them was devoured by the monster Grendel, which was later killed by Beowulf. But there are other names in the story that you might want to use: (1) Hrothgar (the ancient version of Roger), a king; (2) Hygelac, also a king; (3) Breka, a courageous knight who serves Hygelac; (4)Ashker, king Hrotgar's bosom friend; (5)Hardred, king Hygelac's son; (6)Wiglaf, Beowulf's faithful servant. Other names from other legends that you might want to use are: Siegfried, Dietrich von Bern, Tristan, Gunther, Hildebrand, Uther (Pendragon, father of King Arthur), Merlin...Good luck!
