What is the difference between an out-boxer and an in -fighter?
Boxing at 15 December 2007 04:12:57
QI have heard Mike Tyson being cited as in in-fighter. What is an out boxer? Are there any names I can look for on youtube? How do you train to be an out boxer?
ROutside Boxers usually emphasize on the jab, they stay away from their opponent and slowly try to hurt them. Outside fighters are more defensive because they have the tendency to stay away from their opponent. Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mayweather are all outside boxers. De La hoya throws a lot of jabs. They usually win by points.Inside Boxers usually tend to get hit a lot. They are usually the ones who do not mind trading punches with their opponent. They emphasize more on uppercuts and body shots. They usually go for knockouts since they trade a lot of power punches. Hatton, Tyson, Mosley. You need to be tall and have a reach advantage to become an outside fighter. That is just natural you cannot work on it. But theres other things you can work on stamina, definetely work on the jab, Bob and weave. Work on punching prescision: Make sure your punches are accurate. Be quick on your feet because you would need to move a lot, you cannot just plant your feet because you need to get away from your opponnent.

What are the top ten greatest fantasy fights of all time? Who would win and why?
Boxing at 13 January 2011 06:01:39
QI was wondering what are the top ten greatest boxing bouts that never happened, such as Joe Louis vs Ali or a Leonard/Hagler rematch, and who would win and why? Whould Ernie Shavers at his best beat a prime George Foreman? Would Joe Louis at his best beat Ali? What about Rocky Marciano? Could Willie Pep have beaten Sugar Ray Robinson when they were in their primes? If you can, please give fact-based answers.
RMuhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson:The most debated boxing question of all time. I think Ali would have a VERY, VERY difficult time with the '88 version of Tyson but would, as he always did, figure out a way to win. He would probably win a close UD. Tyson would win a few rounds, that's for sure.Sugar Ray Robinson vs Harry Greb:Most think Ray Robinson is the greatest p4p, and quite a few others think Greb is the greatest p4p. This would be a great match as Middleweight. However, I think the very best Middleweight version of Robinson beats the very best Middleweight-version of Greb. Robinson is more skilled, faster, has better footwork and boxing just developed substantially between the 20s and the 50s. Joe Louis vs Muhammad Ali:Battle of the top 2 Heavyweights of all time. I think Ali would win a relatively wide UD. Ali is mroe skilled, faster and has a better chin than Conn and Walcott, who both were outpointing Louis. Conn was outpointing Louis by quite a margin, but got KOed. Ali would be stupid enough to get KOed for two reasons, he was more ring-smart than Conn and has a better chin. Ali UD15 Louis (wide).Henry Armstrong vs Willie Pep (Featherweight):I think this would beat a great fight. Great defense vs great offense. I think Armstrong would pull it off though. It is likely to be a SD rather than a UD though. Pep has a very realistic chance of winning, however, Rocky Marciano vs Jack Dempsey:This match-up has been debated quite a lot. It is actually a very close match that is really hard to predict. However, I think Marciano has what it takes to take the onslaught from Dempsey to wear him down and possibly stop him. If not, win a decision. Next 5:Joe Gans vs Roberto DuranMarvin Hagler vs Carlos MonzonEvander Holyfield vs Joe FrazierGeorge Foreman vs Sonny ListonRoy Jones Jr vs Sugar Ray Robinson

What r your top 5 boxing upsets of all-time? If hatton beats mayweather were would it rank if at all?
Boxing at 07 December 2007 06:12:07
Q1. Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson2. Ali over George Foreman3. Tarver over Roy Jones jr.4. Hasim Rahman over Lennox Lewis5. Leon Spinks’s decision over Muhammad AliIf Hatton beats Mayweather it wont be a shock to me, it would not even be on my on list if it did happen. I think hatton could win this.
Ri don't see ALI over Liston on your page and that was a MAJOR upset. also what about 1996 Holyfield upsetting Tyson. or even 1987 Sugar Ray Leonard upsetting Marvelous Marvin Hagler? but as far as hatton over mayweather goes, it'll be an upset but not and unexpected one. mayweather is taking a risk in fighting hatton but he'll prove how much of a champion he really is in this bout.

What is the most disrespectful thing a boxer said to or about another boxer?
Boxing at 22 April 2011 07:04:54
QI remember Sonny Liston saying that, the then Cassius Clay would be some one's bi-t-ch in prison or words to that effect. We have Mike Tyson eating Lennox Lewis's children. How about Benard Hopkin's saying no white boy could beat him or the mean horrible things Ali said about Joe Frazier. I am sure I missed a lot. Please chime in.
RLMAO! Gheeez! You could fill a book with the crap boxers say to each other. I never took the Tyson: "eating Lennox' children" thing too seriously. If you remember, he wasn't talking directly to Lennox but refering to anyone who would face him. Basicially, Tyson was trying to grab a little of that instant fear that opponents USED to feel. He wanted people, particularly Lennox, to think he was crazy. To be honest, I detected just a tindge of fear or doubt in Mike. Lennox was so cool. Mike couldn't rattle him and I think that made him a bit edgy. When his antics didn't work, Mike called Lennox the "F" word and told him "in my neighborhood, you'll get F#@ked in the azz". Speaking of..........it's the same reaction Floyd displayed when he reached a point of realization that he couldn't move Pacquiao with his antics. It bothered him so much, he went on Youtube and made a bunch of racist remarks. It wasn't hype. It's the ravings of a man who feels he has had something away from him. Pacquiao, by being so cool and reserved and unmoved by Floyd's antics, sent him over the edge.Regarding respect, ALI said a lot of things to, or about Frazier. He called him ugly in every way a person can think of. I remember their scuffle on ABC television, just before the second fight. Frazier hated being called "ignorant". So, what does ALI do? call him ignorant. Tyson said a lot of things to Razor Ruddock too. He told him he'd make Razor his girlfriend and make Razor kiss him with those big lips. Roberto Duran gave Leonard's wife the finger, called her "puta" (whore), and threatened to rape her. I'd like to check out some of the things Tony Ayala have said to others. He was a REAL nut case. He didn't have to hype anything. Floyd Mayweather called Diego Corrales a woman beater just before their fight. He said he was dedicating their fight to battered women......................then, years later, he'd do the same thing Chico did. James Toney and Iran Barkley exchanged insults before their fight. Wladimir Klitschko called David Haye a pu$$y.

Where would you rank Sugar Ray Leonard as a Light Middleweight and Middleweight?
Boxing at 09 March 2012 12:03:42
QAlthough Sugar Ray Leonard was in his absolute peak at Welterweight, he seems to be still doing fine when he was moving up in weight classes.
RLeonard had just two fights at 154 lbs. winning the WBA title by KO in the early 80s over Ayub Kalule of Uganda then going back down to the more glamorous welterweights where he was the undisputed champ and losing a title challenge by one-sided fashion to Terry Norris after campaigning as high as the super middleweight at the twilight of his career in the late 90s.. But considering that at least three of his welterweight rivals who had losing record against him namely Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran and especially Thomas Hearns made good to outstanding showing at 154 lbs., I reckon Leoanrd would also have been a strong force at that weight class had he elected to stay there after beating Kalule. But with only one actual prime time fight and win at 154 lbs., I would only rank Leonard in the bottom half of my top 12 junior middleweights of all time where I rated Hearns as numero uno. Other more established junior middleweights than Leonard include Emile Griffith, Nino Benvenuti, Koichi Wajima, Julian Jackson, Terry Norris, Mike McCallum and Winky Wright. But I must admit that I would even be hard put to rate Leoanrd ahead of Oscar de la Hoya, Tito Trinidad, Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas. At middleweight, Leonard had just one fight, a championship winning bout against Marvin Hagler. Although he beat an undisputed champ and a HOF, it was still not much as a solid gauge. I would be hard put to rate him in my top 12 middleweights of all time,

How good will illini basketball be this year?
Basketball at 03 September 2010 08:09:30
QMccamey, Davis, Tisdale, Richardson, Paul... thats pretty good alone.. but with Meyers Leonard, Head, and stud Jereme Richmond comin to champaign this year.. im sayin winning Big Ten and making it to atleast sweet 16 right?
Rwow, this is great, another Illini fan on Yahoo answers! I think Illini got so much championship potential because they got talent and experience. I think the key is that McCamey has to lead the team and really step up his defense. Mike Davis needs to return to the Mike Davis from his sophomore season. I expect DJ Richardson and Brandon Paul to be even better than last season. I hear Tisdale has gained 15 pounds and helped train team USA, so he may have developed a better post up game. Throw in Jereme Richmond and Meyers Leonard and we got a really great team.In the Big Ten, I think only Purdue and Michigan State could be better because they have true leadership and they've shown that the last two seasons. People say Ohio State will be better than Illinois, and that is complete BS! Anyone who watched the games Evan Turner didn't play in last season would know they are Mediocre without ET. Without a doubt though, Illini will have the deepest team in the Big Ten and possibly the country. They can almost play the whole roster in one game if they needed/wanted to. I think Illini will win the Big Ten, and there will be Epic games against Purdue for sure.In the Tournament, I would say Illini playing to the max potential, they could win the Championship. But realistically, I think they could atleast make it to the Sweet 16. Its really dependent on McCamey, and Mike Davis too, becoming a true leader. McCamey might be one of the best passing point guards in the nation. And he can score big some nights. Mike Davis and Tisdale are a great frontcourt, so I see good things from them. DJ Richardson is a great 3 pt shooter and defender. Throw in the amazing Bench the Illini got and I see a a great year coming up for the Illini.Prediction:Win Big Ten, Win the Big Ten Tournament, go to Elite 8 in the tournament, no more than 6 losses the whole season

Does Modeling Your Boxing Style After Someone Help In The Amateurs?
Boxing at 03 September 2011 03:09:42
QSay, I have an amateur fight in Boxing, if I study someone like Mike Tyson, and model my style after him, and use it against someone, will it help in ANY kind of way?
RI have two clear points to make about this.1) Never model a style after someone completley. Study different boxers and study their styles, pick up tips and learn their moves and what they did well and why. Tyson, whom you mentioned, was a scholar of boxing who knew every trick in the book...from watching every fight clip he could get his hands on. I wouldn't say copy someone completely book for example study the ATGs and find out what makes than ATGs. Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles and Willie Pep will get you started. There's no school like the old school.2) Puncher/swarmer styles are useless in the amateurs. Its all about the amount of punches landed. Tyson himself lost several amateur fights because of this. If you fight like a puncher you take jabs from the opponent, he may well land 10 pitter-patter jabs a round and you may land 3 or 4 BIG shots but according to amateur judging its still 10-3 and you've lost the round. You want to copy a style that'll do well in the amateur...Sugar Ray Leonard, Meldrick Taylor, Pernell Whitaker.

RMy favorite players were Kemba Walker and Kawhi Leonard, and the Bulls didn't get either of them.I'm not happy with our trade for Nikola Mirotic, seeing that he is still under contract in Europe and we won't have him for 3 more years.

Do you think Kimbo Slice could make it in boxing?
Boxing at 15 November 2009 04:11:04
QI think that he might not make it in the UFC, but I think that if someone put a pair of boxing gloves on him and placed him in a ring where takedowns and kicks don't happen, I think that he could make some serious Mike Tyson noise. I think that is a situation that he would be successful. BQ: Do you think Roy Jones Jr is best boxer since Lennox Lewis?
Rnot a chance would kimbo have in the boxing ring. he's a street fighter and not an impressive one in my opinion.jones jr is the best fighter since leonard and duran were in their primes.

Who are the most undisciplined elite fighters in the history of boxing?
Boxing at 12 December 2012 02:12:29
QLets be specific. We are only talking about Elite fighters. Stars! Top Dogs. Whatever you wanna call it. THere is no point including nobodies in the list. Fighters that could have prolonged their prime a bit longer had they lived a more disciplined lifestyleDuran- Overeats a lot in between fights. I still think he would have kicked Leonards ass in the second fight had he not partied like a rockstar after that fight.RJJ- Started rapping and acting when he became a superstar. Got too comfortable with his skills at the time he was fighting bums.Ricky Hatton- gets really bloated up when not in trainingMike Tyson- well you all know the storyWho else?
RRiddick Bowe - He was a very talented Heavyweight who was always too lazy to train. He's so lazy that he has a kitchen... IN HIS BEDROOM. Bowe could've been one of the greatest Heavyweights but never lived up to his full potential because of his lack of work ethic and arrogance.Ray Mercer - Another Talented Heavyweight of the 1980s and early 1990s who were too lazy to train. Like Bowe, he also never lived up to his full potential.James Toney - He's one of those very talented boxers who think they're too talented to train and just balloon himself up from Middleweight all of way up to Heavyweight.
