Will the Canucks resign Kesler and Raymond? And what will the Sharks and Red Wings do with their UFAS?
Hockey at 07 March 2010 12:03:02
QThe Sharks have to resign Marleau Nabokov Setoguchi Blake and PavelskiRed Wings need to resign holmstrom lidstrom and bertuzzi and othersThe Canucks need to resign kesler and raymond and mitchell johnson and demitra?Who will stay?
RI can't say for sure about the Sharks and Nucks (Though they'd be foolish to let Kesler go) but I'll answer about the Red WingsBertuzzi: Will probably resign for the same amount, maybe $500,000 higher. If not he won't be a Red Wing next year.Lidstrom: To clear up a misconception in someone else's airheaded comment, Lidstrom is NOT going to sign a 4 year contract. He's 40 years old so if he doesn't retire (and I don't think he will) he will probably sign a one year contract for something around 4-5 million. Two years at the most, not FOUR.Holmstrom: Will probably take a pay cut. To clear up another misconception made in that bad answer, the Red Wings are NOT going to let the best net-driving player in the league go. He's a first line guy logging 50-60 points a season and causing tons of goals for only 2 million a year. Find me another team that has that, the Wings aren't dumb enough to let Homer go and after 15 years in Detroit he's certainly not looking to leave. I'd say he'll take a cut, probably 1.5-2 million.Helm: Will probably get resigned at 1.5 million for two or three years.Abdelkader: May or may not be resigned. If so he'll go for 1 million.Draper: Will either retire or resign for 1 million.Maltby: Will probably retire, if he doesn't he'll be playing at the minimum contract. From what they're saying his arm isn't in too good of shape.Eaves: Resign at 1.5 million.I certainly hope they'll keep Eaves and Helm, also Miller. Lidstrom, Homer, Draper, and Maltby aren't going to any other team, they're retiring in Detroit, the question is just when. We've got 20 million open in cap room this year, so after resigning Holland will probably want a few million open to resign Howard next year provided he proves he's the real deal. Also Hudler is interested in coming back.

How do you think the Mitchell report will affect the card industry?
Baseball at 14 December 2007 06:12:00
QMy boyfriend buys and sells sports cards and i was just wondering how the new steroid scandal will affect the value of Baseball cards.
ROverall, the value of all cards will drop so insignificantly it's not funny. Unfortunately for all players named, guilty or not, the value is going to bottom out until they can prove that they are not guilty. I would say though, that in the long run the value goes up. The reasoning is that people are going to look for the clean players, even if they aren't "Superstars." Players who are clean (or at least not mentioned), like Ryan Howard and Vlad Guerrero for example, will see an eventual rise in price, but unlike the bottoming out group, this wont be overnight.I would also believe that older cards (pre-1980's) won't change at all, and still rise in price relative to how old they are, and how rare.

Margaret Mitchell and gone with the wind?
Books & Authors at 25 July 2008 05:07:03
Qwhen the movie gone with the wind came out what did margaret mitchell think of it?did she like it?did she despise it?
RAccording to IMDB, Margaret Mitchell approved of the film (overall) and liked the job Vivien Leigh did as Scarlett. Here's their quote: "She personally approved of the interpretation of Scarlett O'Hara by actress Vivien Leigh when she finally saw Gone with the Wind (1939). Overall, she also liked the film with a few minor quibbles. She thought the house at Tara (the O'Hara family plantation) should have been much more modest. She also reportedly did not like the introductory "crawl" that appears on the screen after the opening titles ("There was a land of cavaliers and cotton fields called the Old South ... ")."I've both heard and read in the past that Margaret Mitchell wanted Leslie Howard to play Ashley Wilkes and was pleased that he did so. (I didn't think he fit her description, but she did evidently. I suppose I have chutzpa!)***As a note to dana2592: Why Hollywood didn't attempt a sequel will be answered by this bit of trivia - also on IMDB - "After her death, her brother Stephens Mitchell controlled the copyright to "Gone With the Wind". During his life, he steadfastly refused to grant rights to any sequel (print or film) or filmed remake. Only after his death was the sequel approved, which was adapted as the TV miniseries "Scarlett" (1994)."***Note2: I didn't like Scarlett, either, but I might "bite the bullet" and read Rhett Butler's People. I approach sequels (or additions) to classics and written by somebody else with great trepidation! Yikes, I really hope today's Hollywood doesn't have the temerity to think they can do a better job than the original movie! The possibility of who they may cast as Ashley, Rhett and Scarlett is mind-boggling. A copyright is, from what I understand, in existence for a full 70 years after the author's death. If the author died after January 1st of the year, the copyright exists until the January 1st following the 70-year mark (at least in America).

Is Seth Mitchell further proof that Americas best potential boxers currently play football and basketball?
Boxing at 15 December 2011 08:12:39
QEveryone keeps trying to say the U.S. doesn't have the best athletes and best potential boxers. And to top that off ,Seth Mitchell is a former all-star college football player that has been through 7 knee surgeries ,and he's is STILL considered a world class heavyweight ,now just imagine if he was 100% how good he would be ,or if Dwight Howard and Lebron James were trained at a young age to box ,but don't allow me to change your opinion of other countries best athletes compared to Americas.
RYou know how I feel about this topic. I say it all the time. "The best heavyweights in the world are in the NFL right now." They just didn't grow up boxing, they grew up playing football. That's the "way out" now for young urban blacks, not boxing. If Ray Lewis, Julius Peppers, Patrick Willis, Rodney Harrison, Suggs, etc, grew up boxing, they'd be dominating the world right now, not the Klitschko's.Google Emanuel Steward talking about Ray Lewis. You know he trains Ray Lewis in his off-seasons to keep him in shape right? He said if Ray began boxing young, he'd be champ right now.

Is Seth Mitchell further proof that our best potential heavyweights currently play football and basketball?
Boxing at 15 December 2011 12:12:25
QEveryone keeps trying to say America doesn't have the best athletes and that's why American heavyweights are so weak. Seth Mitchell is a former all-star college football player that has been through 7 knee surgeries ,and he's is STILL considered a world class heavyweight ,now just imagine if he was 100% how good he would be. What if Dwight Howard and Lebron James were trained at a young age to box? By the way ,don't allow me nor Seth Mitchell (a second tier American athlete) to make other country's best heavyweights seem belittled.
RThere are many elite athletes that have the potential to be good boxers, this is not new this has been a fact forever.Boxing has never attracted the very best athletes, you can see many guys that look like they would be excellent boxers if they had trained for the sport. Ed Jones a defensive lineman for the Cowboys tried to become a boxer and actually won 10 fights without a loss in the year he tried boxing before returning to football. If he had trained to box rather than starting when he was in his mid 20s he probably could have been an elite boxer and may be a champ.

What do you think of the Toronto Raptors going into the 09-10 season?
Basketball at 25 July 2009 06:07:49
QOK, so The Raptors have had a major makeover this summer. They are also reportedly bringing back Rasho Nestorovic. I would have liked to see Carlos Delfino back. Do you think this is enough or do we need more, and where do you think we'll fair in the East?
RThis is a bit i wrote on a blogging website about the Raptors offseason and their chances next season. Here is the link to the article hope it helps with your question.http://www.raptorshq.com/2009/7/21/95660…"When reflecting on the Raptors campaign last season the word "disappointing" would be an understatement. Players, coaches, and Raptor fans alike had high hopes after acquiring Jermaine O'Neal from the Pacers. It was just about 20 games into the season when the Raps lost by almost 40 points to the Denver Nuggets and people began pointing fingers. The first victim was Sam Mitchell who seemed to be getting out coached every other game. O'Neal was not living up to his expectation and Toronto Fans began to get anxious. This is when the Raptors organization elected to fire Sam Mitchell, which seemed a little pre-mature, but was bound to happen. As if the Raptors and their fans hadnt already been through enough at this point when newly acquired Jermaine O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat for Marcus Banks, and Shawn Marion and the whirlwind of Bosh trade rumors began. This seemed to take its toll on the Raps who could not find a way to play consistent until late in the season. The Toronto Raptors experienced a dark, gloomy season last year but dont worry Raps fans because there is light at the end of the tunnel.Lets start with the Raptors draft pick DeMar Derozan. As a basketball player he is very raw and needs experience and work but he is a tremendous athlete and has a good head on his shoulders. For a freshman out of college i was surprised to hear how well spoken and humble he was. When asked about next season he stated he wants to play hard and learn from Bosh and others to help the team win. When asked about playing in Toronto he did not complain about the cold like some players he simplied was thankful for the opportunity to play in the NBA and grateful of Toronto for drafting him. Derozan is just what the doctor ordered for the Raps. He is a big, athletic 2 guard who is a tremendous slasher and finisher. He needs to work on his perimeter shot but this will come with time. He will provide the Raps with energy and scoring and will give fans plenty to cheer about with his high flying dunks. Jay Triano has said he plans on starting DeMar which i feel is a great call, not only does it give DeMar confidence but he is the best shooting guard on the Raptors. Toronto is going to embrace DeMar Derozan in a similar way to a young Vince Carter. The signing of Hedo Turkoglu will make the Raptors a playoff team next season. He will provide another ballhandler and playmaker to relieve some pressure off Calderon. The greatest benefit to the Turkoglu signing is not his scoring but his ability to run the pick and roll. Instead of running the pick and roll with Dwight Howard he will be able to run it with Andrea Bargnani and Chris Bosh who are both exceptional perimeter shooters. This will space the floor for Bosh and Derozan and allow them to drive easier. Toronto will cause severe matchup problems for the eastern conference bigs who are not mobile, primarily Shaq and Dwight. Centers will have problems guarding bargnani on the 3 point line. Besides the pick and roll Turkoglu scores 17 points and game and can shoot over shorter small forwards because of his 6'10 frame.Signing Jarrett jack was a great addition for the Raptors because he gives you a legitimate backup point gaurd who is not a liabiltiy on the court like Ukic who is still developing. Jack can also play a 2 guard with Calderon when Toronto wants to go small or want shooters on the floor. I also like the trade for Reggie Evans. Yes you had to give away Kapono but he really wasnt living up to his hype and is a horrendous defender. Evans will provide important toughness and rebounding off the bench.Bosh has stated on his twitter several times he is excited for next season and a chance to play with Turkoglu. This is a very positive sign for Toronto because with the economy at its current state and the salary cap likely to decrease again next season Bosh may elect to stay put in Toronto, especially if they have a good season. The Raptors also recently re-signed Rasho Nesterovic which gives them a conventional center to contrast with Bargnani's style. Rasho will provide interior defense off the bench. So be optimistic Raptor fans because the team looks poised to have a bounce back season and return to the playoffs."
