Do you think a real person will ever be elected President?
Politics at 04 April 2009 04:04:22
QWill we ever have a common person elected President. Every president we have had for the last 100 years has been a rich elitist. Will the people ever elect a small business owner, a coal miner, an auto worker, or someone with a real job. Not a lawyer or a career politician. We need to get back to the days when congress was a part time job you did for free and got back to the farm or factory after your couple of weeks of service each year. We need to limit any political service to 8 years max lifetime.
RI do agree with you as far as term limits for Congress or any political service. If our country survives; I see a backlash by the American people and and a push to Conservatism...What conservatives need is a man of honor; a man who cares about HIS country; and will defend and protect the Constitution of the United States...I like Newt Gingrich or a dark horse, but a very intelligent, fine military man...General David Patraeus..Bobby Jindahl as V.P.

Are people in power from too elitist a background?
Politics at 17 September 2011 05:09:51
QIn the UK almost all our Prime Minister's went to Oxford or Cambridge, of those who didn't like Brown, Callaghan and Major, went to a grammar school. Just like in history, we've had Tony Blair who went to an Eton-style school and David Cameron who went to Eton, as well as Boris Johnson the mayor of London who went to Eton. Its the same in America - worse even - where their candidates are always multi-millionaires. We've got far too few MP's (and senators for that matter) who come from working-class background. I could count them with my fingers and toes.
RI agree - the old times of ex miners being able to get elected have long gone. UK politics is going the same way as the U.S and we need to stop it quick, career politicians have no place in a democracy - they are only in it for the money and Directorships. One way of halting it - controversial one this - no MP gets paid - other than by donations from his own constituency and a very basic salary - lodgings to be supplied in dorms whilst Parliament sits - that should weed a few out - I would love to stand, can't get in!

How much money did Barrack Obama get from Foreign Countries?
Elections at 08 November 2008 04:11:55
QBarrack Hussein Obama had money poring in. Does anyone know how much of it came from other countries. I would be willing to bet, more than half.
R$$$$ Cha Ching! I wonder where Obama can send his "Thank You" card? Oh wait, I know.....Tuesday night America voted for a man who, has been close friends with (and a political protégé of) William Ayers, a domestic terrorist who bombed the Pentagon and various Chicago public monuments and later wrote in the NY Times that he wasn't sorry and wished he'd done more. Obama said "I was only 8 years old when he did that" …. Well Obama, you weren't 8 years old when that piece ran in the NY Times about Ayers having no regrets. This is the man who Obama initially denied ever knowing or meeting, then recanted and said he knew him casually, but thought had been "rehabilitated". Rehabilitated? If Barack Obama applied for a job with the FBI, ATF, DEA or with the Secret Service, he would be disqualified because of his past association with William Ayers, a known terrorist. Imagine that, an elected President of the United States, that would not qualify to be his own body guard! Tuesday night America voted for a man who sat in the pews in front of a reverend who for years preached anti-American hate speech ("Not God Bless America -- God DAMN America!") and referred to America as the ("U.S. KKK of A.") and said in essence we deserved the 9/11 attacks by saying "America's chickens are coming home to roost" Sure Obama tried to distance himself from this man during the elections, but it doesn't change that this man who spewed hate from his mouth was Obama's "Mentor"(his own words) for years. It was only when under national scrutiny that he started to distance himself from Reverend Jeremiah Wright.Tuesday night we elected a man who's spent more of his political career serving his own desires of becoming president than serving the people who elected him. A man who Missed “HUNDREDS” of senate votes. And when he did bother to show up, Refused “HUNDREDS” of times to vote Yea or Nay , and instead chose to Vote "PRESENT" which is the equivalent of saying…” I don't want to politically hurt myself by taking a stand one way or the other.” Tuesday night America voted for a man who in 1979, started college at Occidental in California. At that time, he went by the name of ‘Barry’ (it was the name he used most of his life) and had Two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chan and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan (you might be wondering why his college roommates are important, keep reading, you will understand.). During the summer of 1981, he made a round the world trip; stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, next Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, then to Pakistan where he stayed with his Roommate’s family, and finally to Africa to visit his father’s family. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. After Columbia, he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000. a year. Why Chicago ? By “Chance” he met Tony Rezko, a real estate developer in Chicago who has been convicted of fraud and bribery. Rezko has strong ties with the country he was born in Aleppo, Syria ….and was named Entrepreneur of the Decade by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association. After Harvard Law School Obama went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he did not “directly” take. Instead he took a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhil & Galland…. Guess what? They represented Rezar which is Rezko’s firm. Rezko was one of Obama’s first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with “Seed Money” for his U.S. Senate race. Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan? They were in charge of all those “INTERNET” campaign contribution for Obama. Where did all that money come from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East? What’s that you say, Foreign contributions are Illegal? No kidding. And now we have Obama, the Presumptive- President Elect, Hiring Michelle Obama’s Previous boss, Valerie Jarrett, as his chief advisor…. and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran. Do we see a pattern here? And lets not forget On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on This Week with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, “My Muslim faith,” When questioned, he stated that “he made a mistake.” Some Mistake. Please don’t take my word for it, everything you have read is verifiable by reputable sources. The information is all there, you just have to UNLEARN what the elite controlled media & government has taught you, to keep you controlled and away from thinking for yourselves. Time to wak

How was the gold rush of 1849 linked to the slavery controversy?
History at 05 April 2010 09:04:51
QHow was the gold rush of 1849 linked to the slavery controversy?
RMany free and enslaved people of African ancestry were part of the California Gold Rush (1848–1855), and many were able to buy their freedom and freedom for their families, primarily in the South with the gold they found. There were a number of Gold Rushers of African ancestry, probably less than 4,000[1] One of the miners was an African American Edmond Edward Wysinger (1816-1891). After arriving in the Northern mine area of the California Mother Lode in 1849, Wysinger with a group of 100 or more African American miners, were surface mining in and around Morman, Mokelumne Hill at Placerville and Grass Valley.California entered the Union as a free state, but the framers of the state constitution wrote into law the systematic denial of suffrage and other civil rights to non-white citizens. Some authorities went so far as to attempt to deny entry of all African-Americans, free and slave, from entering California. Interesting to note is first California Governor Peter Burnett, proposed exporting all Black people out of the State of California in his inaugural address stating, "they will forever be a scourge upon our society." The Legislature passed a bill that would ban the immigration of free blacks to California. State Senator David C. Broderick, a fierce opponent of slavery and former firefighter from San Francisco, managed to kill the bill through parliamentary maneuver.Slavery did persist in California even without legal authority. Some slaveowners simply refused to notify their slaves of the prohibition, and continued to trade slaves within the state. Numerous state trials ruled in the favor of emancipation.

What are some of the most SHOCKING moments in music?
Rock and Pop at 03 May 2009 05:05:37
QWhat are they? Why do you think it's the most shocking moment in music? Why won't it be forgotten?
RMichael Jackson doing the 'moonwalk' at the American Music Awards in 1982.Brad Delp committing suicide.AC/DC coming back so quickly from Bon Scott's death with a new singer with the aptly titled (and instant classic) 'Back In Black'.When the keyboardist from Pink Floyd died last month; finding out HE actually sang the lead vocal on 'Comfortably Numb', but only on the record and first tour. Now I wonder why he didn't sing it on the other tours and why did he not sing MORE songs than 2 with PF? Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction'.Madonna's 'burning cross' in the 'Like A Prayer' video.Kiss releasing 'Lick It Up' for the first time WITHOUT the make-upMilli Vanilli winning a Grammy and then losing it for not even singing on the record. It was a good record though...lolWhitney Houston on crack!Iggy Pop CLEAN & SOBER FOR YEARS!! LOL!The death of Joey Ramone.Van Halen firing David Lee Roth and replacing him with Sammy Hagar.Motley Crue firing Vince Neil and replacing him with John CorabiRandy Rhoades dies in a plane crash.Ronnie Van Zant and members die in a plane crash.Patsy Cline died in a plane crash.Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper die in a plane crash.Reba McEntire's band dies in a plane crash.John Denver dies in a plane crash.Night Ranger's air plane goes missing for 3 days. Band is later found partying on an island...LOL!Scorpions do a ballad! 'Winds Of Change' and it becomes the 'unofficial' anthem for Operation Dessert Storm along with Styx's Show Me The Way.Sissy Spacek OUTSINGS Loretta Lynn while portraying her in 'Coal Miner's Daughter'.Mick Jagger's ex-wife 'supposedly' catching him in bed with David Bowie, who never got a 'stick in the eye' btw...lol When he was 18, his best friend squirted him with bleach and blinded him in that eye. This is especially shocking because they are STILL best friends to this day! LOL!Rob Halford comes out of the closet.Melissa Etheridge comes out of the closet.Elton John sold everything he had in his closet but it was shocking to see him and Eminem perform together...lol or maybe just funny.and the most shocking moment in music? WHen, in 2000, ABBA was offered ONE BILLION dollars to perform ONE SHOW in the USA (where they had never toured) and ABBA said "NO. We don't need the money. We can't all be in the same room together at the same time; not even for a BILLION FREAKING DOLLARS! (Milli Vanilli would have jumped on THAT!) LMAO!

How did industrialization, science, and nationalism come together to produce European dominated globe by 1900?
Economics at 06 October 2008 08:10:36
QHow did industrialization, science, and nationalism come together to produce European dominated globe by 1900?
RYou are a little late. By 1900, the U.S. was #1.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_United_States_(1865%E2%80%931918)As for the more general question, Jared Diamond tried to make the claim that it was all a "pre-ordained" matter of geography in his "Guns, Germs, and Steel"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_SteelWhile his arguments about Eurasia as opposd to the other continents make sense, his arguments about Europe vs. the rest of Eurasia do not.My guess is that the answer is the third of your factors. While China had all the technology of early industrial Europe at least several hundred years earlier, the Chinese had no incentive to use it - they were far and away the most powerful entity on their area of interest. And even the barbarian hordes that threatened them were not going to be affected by increased industrialization or economic power. In contrast, all the European countries recognized that they were in competition with their number for both economic and political power and so encouraged industrialization, technological development, etc.For example, Germans first learned to mine efficiently in the late Middle Ages so we see other countries importing German miners and paying them high wages to pass on their knowledge as early as the 16th century:http://www.blurtit.com/q238454.htmlhttp://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CORNISH/2006-03/1142016678In the economic sphere, mercantilism, with its stress on the power of the state, held sway as the primary theory for decisions.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MercantilismIt was defeated by Adam Smith, David Hume, and other critics on the grounds that it did not properly reflect the way to improve the state's power. In the diplomatic sphere, it was the time of "national interests":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_interestIn terms of military development, all the countries that could would send observers to all the conflicts they could, just to learn. The American Civil War was a major source of military thinking in Europe. As for weapons, the Civil War showed the importance of fire power, and so stimulated a major push for better rifles in Europe. During the Spanish-American War, even the Spaniards had better weapons than the American forces.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish-American_Warhttp://www.militaryrifles.com/http://amh.freehosting.net/span.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arms_race
