He was too brilliant for his own good. He wasn't willing to compromise with ANYONE. He was too dignified and too proud. He spoke the truth. Whites were intimidated by his audacity and his genuity. RIt's not clear that she does commit suicide. Look at Act V, Scene 5, lines 8-28. Macbeth and Sir Christopher Seyton hear women lamenting, Macbeth sends Seyton to find out why, and Seyton reports back that the queen is dead. Macbeth then gives the "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow" speech, and as he finishes, a messenger comes in to tell him that Birnam Wood is marching toward Dunsinane. Absolutely nothing is said about how she dies or who found her, although it's reasonable to suppose that one of the women attending her found her--perhaps the one who was with her in the sleepwalking scene.So it's possible that she did commit suicide, but how is essentially up to the director of the performance. In the old Orson Welles film, she falls down a chasm (or maybe from the battlements of the castle into the courtyard), laughing madly as she falls. In the Roman Polanski film, she seems to have thrown herself into the courtyard, and when Malcolm takes the castle, his army rides in past her body, lying under a blanket with a hand or foot sticking out. So her death could be suicide, or it could be an accident. There are other possibilities as well. One is that the doctor (rightly or wrongly) interpreted something Macbeth said about her mental condition to mean that the doctor should give her a drug to put her out of her misery. And one (though not very likely) is that she simply died a natural death.Edit: Malcolm's comment may be simply an assumption and an example of how the winners write the history, since he could hardly KNOW.
