Do you believe in faith without repentance?
Religion & Spirituality at 17 March 2010 04:03:27
QDo you believe that all you have to do is say a prayer and you will go to heaven? Do you believe there is more to it, and you must repent of your sins? Do you believe once you are a christian, no matter what you cant ..."leave Gods hands"?Please and ThanksAlso if you dont mind tell why you believe what you do based in biblical texts.
RFaith is usually what starts us off. It is impossible for us to come to God unless we believe He exists. So, faith is a first step that causes us to call on God in prayer.I DON'T believe we can just polly-parrot some prayer and then see Heaven at the end of our lifetime, with no change whatsoever in our thought process, desires, or actions. When we call out to God by praying in sincerity of heart, (not just mumbling something someone told us to say), God touches our hearts, and brings conviction of sin. He makes us aware of things we've done wrong, how we've failed Him and hurt others. He causes us to realize that we cannot change without His help. That is what repentance is--- a change of heart, or a turn-around from our sins. We begin to want to walk in the newness of life that He offers. We see that He offers a "better way", and how our past sinful efforts were like a ship without a rudder. There are some sobering passages in the Bible. we know that Satan got kicked out of Heaven. We know that Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' own disciples who walked closely with Him, betrayed Him.But except for Judas, whose falling away had a purpose, I believe in Jesus' keeping power over His own. Biblical reference: Jesus' words to His Heavenly Father in prayer, regarding His followers: (John 17: 12)--- "While I was with them in the world, I KEPT THEM in Thy name: those that Thou gavest Me I have kept, and NONE OF THEM IS LOST, but the SON OF PERDITION (JUDAS), that the scripture might be fulfilled." (SOMEONE had to betray Jesus so that He could die on the cross for our sins, and that person was Judas.)2nd Biblical reference about God's keeping power over his own: Psalm 37: 23- 24: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth in his way. Though he (the righteous man) falls (if he stumbles), he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand." This is a very comforting verse that says even if the Christian stumbles, he will not be cast headlong because God's hand will keep him from completely falling.God is in the business of changing hearts. Like Francesca Battistelli sings in her song & video:Don't know how it is You looked at meAnd saw the person that I could beAwakening my heart, Breaking through the darkSuddenly, your graceLike sunlight burning at midnightMaking my life something so beautiful, beautifulMercy reaching to save meAll that I need, You are so beautiful, beautiful.

How was the greek goddess tyche born?
History at 04 March 2007 09:03:02
Q(i need the story of her birth)
RIn Greek mythology, Tyche (Τύχη,meaning "luck" in Greek, Roman equivalent: Fortuna) was the presiding tutelary deity that governed the fortune and prosperity of a city, its destiny. Increasingly during the Hellenistic period cities had their own specific iconic version of Tyche, wearing a mural crown, that is a crown like the walls of the city. In literature, she might be given various genealogies, as a daughter of Hermes and Aphrodite, or considered as one of the Oceanids, daughters of Oceanus and Tethys or Zeus Pindar. She was connected with Nemesis and Agathos Daimon ("good spirit").Tyche appears on many coins of the Hellenistic period in the three centuries before the Christian era, especially from cities in the Aegean. In medieval art, she was depicted as carrying a cornucopia, an emblematic ship's rudder, and the wheel of fortune, or she may stand on the wheel, presiding over the entire circle of fate.In the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara, Tyche became closely associated with the Buddhist ogress Hariti.Tyche was also a luck goddess in the Forgotten Realms setting of the game Dungeons & Dragons, who later split into Tymora (goddess of good luck) and Beshaba (goddess of bad luck).

How many parables and miracles are there in each gospel?
Religion & Spirituality at 31 July 2011 11:07:52
QHow many in Matthew? How many in Mark? How many in Luke? How many in John?
RI haven't counted them but here is a selection for you to cross reference of parables(1) The two debtors (Lu 7:41-43).and the parable’s application are found in the context, Luke 7:36-40, 44-50.(2) The sower (Mt 13:3-8; Mr 4:3-8; Lu 8:5-8). explanation is plainly given at Matthew 13:18-23; Mark 4:14-20; and Luke 8:11-15. (3) Weeds among the wheat (Mt 13:24-30). Explanation is provided by Jesus, as recorded at Matthew 13:36-43(4) The mustard grain (Mt 13:31, 32; Mr 4:30-32; Lu 13:18, 19). see also Mt 13:47, 48; 25:1, 2.(5) The leaven (Mt 13:33). Again,Bible introduces by a statement regarding failure of people to get the real sense of God’s Word.—Mt 13:13-15(6) The hidden treasure (Mt 13:44; Mt 13:36) (7) The merchant seeking pearls (Mt 13:45, 46). (8) The dragnet (Mt 13:47-50).(9) The unmerciful slave (Mt 18:23-35). The situation giving rise to Jesus’ use of the illustration is set out in Matthew 18:21, 22, and the application is stated in verse 35(10) The neighborly Samaritan (Lu 10:30-37). (11) The persistent friend (Lu 11:5-8). (12) The unreasonable rich man (Lu 12:16-21).(13) The unproductive fig tree (Lu 13:6-9). (14) The grand evening meal (Lu 14:16-24).(15) The one lost sheep (Lu 15:3-7). Luke 15:1, 2 shows that the illustration was prompted by the muttering of the Pharisees and the scribes Matthew 18:12-14 records a similar illustration (16) The lost drachma coin (Lu 15:8-10). (17) The prodigal son (Lu 15:11-32). (18) The unrighteous steward (Lu 16:1-8). The lesson to be drawn from the illustration is stated in verses 9-13.(19) The rich man and Lazarus (Lu 16:19-31). The setting, in Luke 16:14, 15(20) Good-for-nothing slaves (Lu 17:7-10).(21) The widow and the judge (Lu 18:1-8). The illustration emphasizing prayer was particularly appropriate in view of what is stated in the preceding chapter, verses 20 to 37(22) The self-righteous Pharisee and the penitent tax collector (Lu 18:9-14). (23) The workers paid a denarius (Mt 20:1-16). The illustration is part of Jesus’ answer to Peter’s question in Matthew 19:27(24) The minas (Lu 19:11-27). (25) The two children (Mt 21:28-31). (26) The murderous cultivators (Mt 21:33-44; Mr 12:1-11; Lu 20:9-18). (27) The marriage feast for the king’s son (Mt 22:1-14). (28) The ten virgins (Mt 25:1-13). (29) The talents (Mt 25:14-30). (30) The sheep and the goats (Mt 25:31-46) This illustration is part of Jesus’ reply to his disciples’ question concerning ‘the sign of his presence and the conclusion of the system of things.’—Mt 24:3Illustrations by Christ’s disciples. Besides recording the illustrations spoken by Jesus Christ, the Christian Bible writers also made good use of such. In the book of Acts, Luke records the fine illustrations used by the apostle Paul when talking to non-Jews in Athens. Paul referred to objects of devotion with which they were acquainted and to the writings of their own poets. (Ac 17:22-31) As a reading of the letter to the Hebrews will reveal, the same apostle (who is generally credited with writing this letter) freely used illustrations from the history of God’s dealing with Israel. To those in Corinth, who were familiar with Greek sports, he likened the Christian course to a race. (1Co 9:24-27) Outstanding is the illustration of the olive tree, with its warning against complacency and its admonition to Christians to perform sacred service to God with their power of reason.—Ro 11:13-32; 12:1, 2.Jesus’ half brother James nicely wove into his writing common circumstances of daily life, referring to a man looking in a mirror, the bridle of a horse, the rudder of a ship, and so forth, to drive home spiritual truths. (Jas 1:23, 24; 3:3, 4) Peter and Jude drew heavily on earlier inspired writings for incidents to illustrate the message that they were moved by holy spirit to convey. All these fine illustrations, directed by the spirit of God, serve their purpose toward making God’s Word the Bible a living book. His miracles are not all recorded as it says that he calmed the stormy sea of Galilee; walked on its waters (Mt 8:23-27; 14:23-34); healed the blind, the deaf, and the lame, as well as those with sicknesses as grave as leprosy; and even raised the dead.—Lu 7:18-23; 8:41-56; Joh 11:1-46.As to how many, no one can be certain as numbers for each are not provided in the bible

What is the significance of the cockerel on the French football shirt?
2006 FIFA World Cup(TM) at 03 October 2006 05:10:24
QWhat is the significance of the cockerel on the French football shirt?
Rdanilekhalad will give you full detail....well ok i'll answer.....*ahem*The Cockerel ( Rooster), a Christian symbol of vigilance since the New Testament story of the Passion, had long been part of French national culture, largely because the Latin words for cock and inhabitant of Gaul are similar (Gallus v gallicus). got it??? well here's a bit of history....let ,me try to sum it up...In the Middle Ages it was widely depicted in French churches and is recorded in 14th century Germany in references to France. Chaucer's vain, foolish and boastful character Chantecleer in the Canterbury Tales may have been recognised by his readership as refering to the French national character . From the 16th century onwards representations of a cockerel occasionally accompanied the King of France on coins - it appears on the coins struck under both the Valois and Bourbon kings. The French Revolution gave wider currency to the emblem: it appeared on the Seal of the Premier Consul, and surmounted the staff carried by the allegorical figure of Fraternité. It was an official emblem under the July Monarchy and the Second Republic when it was used on the poles of regimental flags. Napolean was not so keen it. When a commission of Councillors of State proposed it as an emblem of France, the Emperor rejected it on the grounds that: "the cockerel has no strength; in no way can it stand as the image of an empire such as France." He replaced it by a more appropriate eagle. It returned to favour from 1830 onwards. Under an an ordinance of July 30, 1830, the Gallic cockerel figured on the buttons of the uniforms of the National Guard and surmounted their colours. It replaced the fleur-de-lis as the national emblem. In 1848 it featured on the the Great Seal of France (The Official Seal of the French Republic) - as it still does - depicted on a ship's rudder next to the figure of Liberty. Napoleon III viewed the cockerel with disfavour, but it virtually became an official symbol of the Third Republic: the gates of the Elysée Palace, erected at the end of the 19th century, feature a cockerel. So did the 20 frank gold coin struck in 1898, and one appears more prominently on another 20 franc coin minted in 1904. During word war I, the French cockerel was often represented standing in opposition to the German Imperial eagle. The cockerel still features on the Seal of State, which dates back to the Second Republic: a cockerel stands on the helm held by the seated figure of Liberty. The Cockerel is now used mainly in two specialised contexts: national sports teams and to denote military valour (for example on memorials to those who died in the Great War). *whew* a lot...well i hope that answers it. later boons

We’ve processed the messaging habits of over a million people and are about to basically prove that, despite what you might’ve heard from the Obama campaign and organic cereal commercials, racism is alive and well. It would be awesome if the other major online dating players would go out on a limb and release their own race data, too. I can’t imagine they will: multi-million dollar enterprises rarely like to admit that the people paying them those millions act like turds. But being poor gives us a certain freedom. To alienate all our users. So there.http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/your-race-affects-whether-people-write-you-back/About OkTrendsOkTrends is original research and insights from OkCupid. Christians, these days peopl talk a lot and try to hurt others with words, some consider that skill of fighting?
Religion & Spirituality at 19 May 2010 02:05:49
QIt became very popular in last few decades . some call it freedom of speech and think it is just talking and it is fanny. But what is actually happening to human soul when starts talking anything it wants
RThis is incredibly damaging. The Bible has very strong words to say about "taming the tongue" and the damage done when this is not practiced.Taming the Tongue - James Chapter 31 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

why do protestant christians or evangelical christians are dividing in many groups?
Religion & Spirituality at 27 December 2011 06:12:30
Qsometimes similar but with different interpretantion of the Bible is because these groups apply what luther taught them the sola scriptura and free interpretantion of the Bible? that's the reason protestant churches even looks similar in the main doctrines but some of them reject the holy trinity, women should wear veil and some protestant churches accept women as pastors
Rthey have no authoritative figure to guide them , no chief shepherd to lead them , they are like a ship without a rudder. as jesus said to peter "feed my my lambs , feed my sheep . in john 21 :15 ff i have other sheep that do not belong to this fold , they will hear my voice , there will be one flock and one shepherd ,john ch. 10

How do worldviews influence actions?
Religion & Spirituality at 20 May 2010 09:05:59
QIt would be good if you good give an example i need this because we are studying palestine terrorism and crusades.
RTHE history of Christendom, with its wars, inquisitions, crusades, and religious hypocrisy, has not helped the cause of Christianity. Devout Muslims and others point to the moral corruption and decadence of the Western, “Christian” world as a basis for rejecting Christianity. Indeed, the so-called Christian nations have lost their moral rudder and have suffered shipwreck on the rocks of faithlessness, greed, and self-indulgence.That the standards of original Christianity were different from the permissive mores of today is attested to by Professor Elaine Pagels in her book Adam, Eve, and the Serpent, wherein she states: “Many Christians of the first four centuries took pride in their sexual restraint; they eschewed polygamy and often divorce as well, which Jewish tradition allowed; and they repudiated extramarital sexual practices commonly accepted among their pagan contemporaries, practices including prostitution and homosexuality.”Conflict With and Within ChristendomBeginning in the seventh century, Islām spread westward into North Africa, eastward to Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and down to Indonesia. As it did so, it entered into conflict with a militant Catholic Church, which organized Crusades to recover the Holy Land from the Muslims. In 1492 Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain completed the Catholic reconquest of Spain. Muslims and Jews had to convert or be expelled from Spain. The mutual tolerance that had existed under Muslim rule in Spain later evaporated under the influence of the Catholic Inquisition. However, Islām survived and in the 20th century has experienced resurgence and great growth. While Islām was expanding, the Catholic Church was going through its own turmoil, trying to keep unity in its ranks. But two powerful influences were about to burst on the scene, and they would shatter even further the monolithic image of that church. They were the printing press and the Bible in the language of the people. Our next chapter will discuss Christendom’s further fragmentation under those and other influences.
